I Made You This Tape

The companion soundtrack to Jason, written, engineered and performed by Maia Macdonald (Kid In The Attic, Mitten, Mirah), is available here as a sliding scale download. 

My request to Maia was to create the mixtape Jason finds on the floor of his queercore college-aged older sister's car in chapter five.

A few years ago I received a message from Sara about a possible collaboration:

“Basic idea here: a lesbian couple trying to do an erotic role play, but they disagree on how plausibly it needs to be built out. The guiding theme could be like... a mix tape (it's 1998, so could be CDr) someone made in advance to make out or have sex to, but then some tracks turn out to be kind of inappropriate or jarring, and it just doesn't work out the way they planned.” -  2020 e-mail

Using high school era microphones, instruments, and my parents’ suburban living room, I wrote and recorded the soundtrack for “Jason” in early 2021, hoping to channel the earnest, at times bratty melodrama of a mid-to-late 90’s mixtape, which I remember well.
